Campaign with us

Here are some ways you can campaign to make sure that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) are included, heard, considered, understood and get appropriate healthcare:

  1. Be the PMLD champion on your partnership board or advocacy forum.
  2. Help your partnership board or forum focus on the needs of people with PMLD by:
    • Helping people to understand who has PMLD by showing them the PMLD Network definition fact sheet - standard or easy read version.
    • Show people the Meet the People CD-Rom.
    • Give people copies of the PMLD Network leaflet so they know where to find out more.
    • Invite someone with PMLD and their parent, carer or advocate to come to your meeting and tell you more about what matters to them.
    • Ask your partnership board to follow the tips in our ‘Top Tips’ guide about including people with PMLD – many of the ideas above are in this guide
  3. Plan for the needs of people with PMLD by finding out how many people live in the area and doing an audit of their needs.
  4. Whenever you are making plans ask the question ‘How will this work for people with PMLD?’
  5. Tell us what you are doing! We need to share your good ideas with others.
