Consent
We need to do everything possible to make sure that people are happy for their photo or video clip to be shown on the PMLD Network website.
When someone is not able to consent to the use of their images we need to involve their family, friends, carers and advocates in the decision.
We follow the guidelines set out in the Mencap factsheet about gaining consent to show people’s images
We give these guidelines to the relative, carer, friend or advocate of the person with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). The guidelines help them decide whether or not to give permission – on behalf of the person with PMLD – for us to show their photo or video clip.
We ask them to sign a consent form to make it clear that we have permission to show the photo or video clip.
