PMLD Network responds to Valuing People Now
April 2008

The PMLD Network has recently submitted a response to the Valuing People Now consultation.
It welcomes the greater emphasis that Valuing People Now places on the needs of people with complex needs. But it says that a lot needs to be done if Valuing People is going to work for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). For example:
- There needs to be proper planning and monitoring of the support people with PMLD receive.
- New initiatives which have the power to transform lives must work for people with PMLD who have the most complex needs.
- The associated health needs of people with PMLD need to be understood and met.
In the ‘Making it Happen – the priorities’ section of the response, the PMLD Network sets a vision for how things will look in 3 years time if Valuing People has worked for people with PMLD and gives recommendations of how we can get there.
