Report finds social care provision needs urgent improvement

March 2009

Valuing People Now front coverThe Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) has published ‘The State of Social Care 2007-08’ – which summarises the progress in adult social care over the last 6 years.

The report indicates some movement away from traditional residential care to community based services and the increased functioning of person-centred care. However the report shows the developments are patchy and that many local authorities are falling short of the national strategy and failing service-users.

The second part of the report pays particular attention to person-centred social care for people with multiple and complex needs.

We believe the report confirms our understanding that the personalisation agenda is not being implemented by local authorities for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

We welcome CSCI’s efforts to highlight specific and practical ways for local authorities to improve.
